Hello from a non-polish speaking fellow

Hi guys!

My name is Ivan and I come from Bulgaria. I am a commercial pilot and I'm based in Wroclaw, so that's what I'm doing in Poland.

Unfortunately I do not speak Polish language at this point. And as it turns out I need some help from the BMW community in Wroclaw.

I am a big BMW fan. Used to own an e46 320d for two years but last year I had to sell it. It looked like that:

Unfortunately, I had to sell it because I needed money. However, I bought another one recently that is not in a very good condition. It's a 318i with the m43b19 engine, 1999, nothing special about it. It has a lot of problems that I need to address, the most urgent from them being the car leaking cooling fluid from somewhere, I think mainly when the system is pressurized. My question is could you direct me to some mechanics here in Wroclaw that can take a look or maybe rent a jack or a ramp that I can take a look myself, something like that:

Thanks for your help. I know this is not a topic for this category but I hope that the admins can make an exception given the circumstances :) Feel free to respond here or in a PM.

Thanks!

Hi,

The car is pretty old so I think more likely that one of the rubber hoses that take the coolant to and from the radiator hardened and cracked. I think the cheapest solution would be to either go to Castorama or Obi something and buy a cheap hydrolic jack and check yourself first before going to any mechanic, a cheaper one costs maybe 80 PLN and if the car has alot of problems you intend to slowly fix yourself you'll probably need one anyways...

I service my cars at a friend's shop (with the exception of the Audi which I service at the dealer because it's still under warranty) - however he doesn't speak a word of English.

A guy from this forum seems to run a shop:

Or you can just buy a pair of jack stands along with the jack, here's 80zł for a pair of them.

SOLIDNE KOBYLKI STOJAKI SAMOCHODOWE 3T 2SZT FV VAT (6069740929) - Allegro.pl - Więcej niż aukcje.

Cheap jack:

PODNOŚNIK SAMOCHODOWY ŻABA 2T LEWAREK HYDRAULICZNY (5960000511) - Allegro.pl - Więcej niż aukcje. 65zł

Alternatively you could just take your car to one of those 'stacja kontroli pojazdów' where they'll remove the cover and tell you where it's leaking - but again there might be a language barrier and doesn't get you any closer to fixing it yourself since you'd still need the jack and jack stands.

Thank you very much for your reply. For this particular problem I plan to use a mechanic's services to fix since it might be difficult to do on my own. About the English barrier, I plan to bring a Polish friend with me to help out :) This friend of yours, is he reasonably priced?

To be honest he isn't strictly a mechanic shop - he has a shop but buys and rebuilds crashed BMWs and only really works on really new cars. He services the cars of his friends but it's not really profitable for him to do minor repairs for the general public. I understand him completely on this point, because for instance changing the brakes on a 15 year old car is going to take quite a bit of time wrestling with rusted and stuck bolts whilst tieing up his lift for a couple of hours and making him fuck all money.

... and therefore I think you might (or even should) consider the first link you got (http://www.maxbimmer.pl/f45/czakss-garage-mechanika-blacharstwo-wulkanizacja-23915/) - this guy is familiar with half of our rides, he's good at what he's doing and he won't charge you twice as much as you should pay.

Hey there.

If u have difficulties in getting into contact with the mechanic that was listed before, I do have a pretty good one which specialises mainly in BMWs. (has an e34 as a daily and an e30 with a m62b44 motor crammed under the bonnet). His english isnt top shelf but if I can help out somehow, just PM me.

Cheers and welcome to Wroclaw!
